Calling All Cowboys...

I need a favor! I'm putting together a slideshow for my grandfather's memorial service on Saturday and I need some country music to go along with the pics. I'm looking for something done by a male vocalist with funeral-appropriate lyrics (touching but not overwhelmingly sad or depressing). So if there are any country music fans out there or if you just happen to know of some good tracks that might work, PLEASE let me know. Anything to point me in the right direction will help. Thank you much in advance.

Well there are a few johnny Cash songs... most of them collaborations or covers Not sure it all of them are funeral appropriate but some seem so. Some might be a little odd? Also some Dylan, but it might not be country

"Redemption Song" from "Selections from Cash Unearthed" - Johnny Cash w Joe Strummer covering Marley

"Brdige Over Troubled Water" from "The Man Comes Around" - Simon n Garfunkel cover

"In My Life" from "The Man Comes Around" - Beatles cover

"One" from "American III" - U2 cover

"Blowin In The Wind" - Bob Dylan

"Like a Rolling Stone" - Bob Dylan

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door" - Bob Dylan

"The Times They Are A-Changing" - Bob Dylan

"Heart Of Gold" - Neil Young

"Harvest Moon" - Neil Young

"The Wanderer" from "Zooropa"- Johnny Cash singing a U2 song

Thats about as countryish I know the names of, off the top of my head. Now if you are looking for something with Bluesy or countryish and an older feel but not quite either check out the following:

"Promise" from "Howl" - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

"Gospel" from "Howl" - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

sorry I don't know that much country

I wish I could help.

You know though, if the genre of Country does not work out, I'm sure something a little more jazzy can work out (maybe Louis Armstrong or something that G & G used to dance to).

Mike, I always know that I can rely on you when it comes to music. Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I'll do some more research on lyrics and tempo and let you know what I end up going with... At the very least, I'll walk away with a Johnny Cash CD or two. Cheers.

Man, I would love to hook my iPod up to your computer (if you let me) and upload 20G or so of music! Too bad that we didn't live closer. There is so much out there that I am unaware of...

Ryan, do you have any other Bon Jovi classics that you'ld like to share with us? ;)

Oh-ohhhhh, living on a prayer. Take my hand and we'll make it I swear-er. Oh-ohhhhh, living on a prayer. Living on a prayer."

Mike, I downloaded some of your suggestions from iTunes and added them to my music library but ultimately went with a song by Alan Jackson called "Remember When." It was the perfect song for the slideshow and it went really well. Thanks for giving me some ideas to work with and expanding my musical knowledge. You the man.

Ryan, I'll let you know if I ever need anything more from Bon Jovi.
